An enigmatic mainstay of underground electronic and dance music in Aotearoa, Kolya’s performances are as eclectic as they are uncommon. Sporting tables of synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines, they have performed live electronic music for audiences across NZ and Australia, as well as China, Malaysia, and Thailand over the past twelve years. The music is considered and targeted, crafted as unique sets fit for the audience and venue. Club and festival-focused sets have contained heavy four-to-the-floor bass, industrial, noisy rhythms, distorted synths, dropping into frantic breaks and journeys into the uplifting and sonic, all while maintaining an infectious groove.
Kolya’s sound, like their presence, is elusive — never quite the same twice. With an intuitive understanding of space and energy, each set unfolds as a story, unpredictable and hypnotic, encouraging you to get lost in the moment.
