Taikoza Wellington
Taikoza is a Wellington-based Taiko drumming group that brings the powerful rhythms and spirit of traditional Japanese Taiko to life. Originally formed in Hiroshima in the mid-1980s, the group has been based in Wellington since 1991, performing at iconic festivals and events such as Blossom Valley, CubaDupa, and the annual Lunar New Year Festival. Taikoza’s thunderous beats marked the reopening of St James Theatre and have contributed to performances by Synthony and other orchestras and last year collaborated with L.A.B, in a live music video of Oh No (Pt. 2).
The group’s rhythms are deeply rooted in tradition, learned from Taiko Hozonkai in Hiroshima, Japan—preserving sounds that have echoed for centuries.
