The Temple

Pōneke-based ambient alternative band The Temple has risen from the capital’s sound art scene with an expansive and completely unique sound. Blending experimental saxophone solos, propulsive rhythms, and meditative stasis, the group creates modern-day ceremonies that exult the shared human-ness of its witnesses.

The Temple’s performances are sincere and uplifting, aspiring to foster connection in an increasingly disconnected world. These genre-bending sonic tapestries draw on influences from drum and bass, jungle, downtempo/doom metal, jazz improvisation, and tape-loop soundscapes. Their mysterious, soulful sound creates “a transgressive ebb and flow” (Elsewhere), with sounds that “tumble and twirl, soothe and console” (a closer listen).

"These loops tumble and twirl, soothe and console. It’s easy to get lost within them, to surrender to the ambience"
