03. AfroUrban Sound Stage

The Blackhouse is a community-driven radio-podcast platform on Wellington Access Radio. We hold space for Black-owned businesses, creative projects, community initiatives, stories, discussions & issues that don’t always get mainstream attention. Our kaupapa is to amplify Black voices, music, and stories in Aotearoa.
At this year’s Newtown Festival, we’re bringing a fresh mix of live DJ sets – a showcase of local fresh talent from our diverse African & Carribean diaspora community. From Afrobeats to Amapiano, Dancehall to R&B grooves, Afrotech to Afrohouse we celebrate the diverse urban sounds of our African & Black diaspora in Aotearoa.
Check out our podcast on Wellington Access Radio 106.1fm every Saturday afternoon from 3pm-4pm.
On Festival Day March 2nd 2025 – Come find us on the AfroUrban Sound Stage @ Emmett St 4pm: Get into the Vibe with our Djs:
DJ Anansi • KBtheDJ • DJ XJ • DJ COLEOZ and new Haitian-NZ artist • Imani J • All performing at Newtown Festival for the very first time. The Blackhouse is more than a radio show or a podcast—we’re a community.
